DIY Spiced Chai Candle

Do you love the cozy and warm aroma of fall-scented candles but hate the toxic ingredients that may be used?

We know the feeling! That is why making your own all-natural spiced chai candle is something to light up!

Spice up your space and create a warm autumn atmosphere with this DIY Spiced Chai Candle using Rocky Mountain Oils Spiced Chai Essential Oil Blend!

Candle Kits can differ, so here's a list of all the items you will need:

  • Non-toxic candle wax (we used Organic Soy Wax)
  • Thermometer
  • Scale
  • Wax heating pot
  • Heating plate or stove
  • Long stirring spoon
  • Wicks
  • Wick holders
  • Container(s) for your candle
  • RMO's Spiced Chai Essential Oil Blend
  • Organic Chai Tea Loose Leaf Tea *optional

Steps to making your Spiced Chai Candle:

First, measure out your wax. Make sure to measure your candle wax by weight, not volume, which is why it's essential to have a scale. To know how much wax you need, multiply the number of candles you want to make by the ounces of a single container, and then divide that by 20. For example, if you are making 30 8-ounce candles, here's how you would find your measurement: 30 (containers) x 8 (oz per container) = 240 total ounces / 20 = 12 lbs of wax.

Once you've weighed out your wax, stir it in your heating pot until it's fully melted. (Usually at around 180 degrees Fahrenheit.) Then, take it off the heating plate or stove and let it start to cool.

While the wax is cooling, place and center your wicks in the containers, keeping them centered using a wick holder tool.

Now, check the temperature of your wax. Once it cools to around 130 degrees Fahrenheit, you can add in the Spiced Chai Essential Oil! For every 1lb of wax, we suggest putting in 100 drops of essential oil. Stir the oils in the wax frequently for 3 minutes to help the oil bind better to wax.

Now you're ready to pour! Pour the wax into the candle containers while keeping the wick and wick holder in place. If you desire an herbal texture throughout the whole candle, you can pour the wax into layers and add chai tea leaves with each layer.

Once you fill the whole container with wax, you'll notice a color shift as it cools. The wax will become less clear. That is a great time to top your candle with organic chai tea leaves for those beautiful textures on the top of your candle. The wax is thick enough that the heavier herbs won't sink but will still be nestled in the candle wax. Get creative with it! We suggest using a toothpick to move the herbs and tea leaves away from the centered wick.

Finally, let your candle completely cool. You can now remove the wick holder and trim the wick down. We suggest waiting at least 24-48 hours before burning your candle.

Viola! We hope you love this Spiced Chai candle and it's delicious and cozy aroma as much as we do, and you can rest assured your candle is safe and clean for everyone to enjoy.
